Scott Burns has lived independently at PhilHaven since March 2017. Prior to applying

for housing, he had been temporarily homeless and was seeking permanent and stable

housing options in a good community when he was directed to PhilHaven while working

with the North/Northwest Suburban Task Force on Supportive Housing for Individuals

with mental illness. Scott has since become a spokesperson for the Task Force and hopes to represent those with disabilities advocating for more housing. PhilHaven’s “clean, friendly and safe environment” appealed to Scott, along with the supportive services offered and the comfort of the neighborhood. Since living at PhilHaven and with the help of case management, Scott takes pride in his achievement of his G.E.D. and intends to continue his education and pursue a bachelor’s degree.
