Resident Interview

Sherry Jones has been living with her two kids for the past five years at New Evergreen Sedgwick.

Located in the Old Town neighborhood not far from downtown Chicago, Sherry really enjoys living close to everything. She finds it conducive for her and her kid’s lifestyles. From the gym to a variety of grocery options to public transportation that goes anywhere in the city, the convenience is hard to beat.

Sherry very much enjoys interacting with the property manager, Mikia Dameron, and the permanent supportive housing director, Kelly Brown. “They are very helpful and respond to matters within minutes.”

When the COVID-19 pandemic shuttered the world, Sherry unfortunately lost her job. She kept in contact with management and worked hard to obtain another job. Staff at NES worked with Sherry and accepted smaller portions of the rent, but she ended up owing about $3,000 in arrears.

On November 3rd management was able to inform Sherry that she was approved for $5,000 in emergency rental assistance from IHDA. She expressed great relief through tears of joy and explained this was the best news she has received in a while. We are so happy to have been able to help Sherry find assistance in these unprecedented times and are thrilled to share this news with all of you.

Sherry wants to give a special shoutout to all the management staff at the NES office for all the amazing work they have done!
